Common questions in this chat
How do I extend my stay as a visitor in Hong Kong?
Apply with form ID 91 to the Immigration Department: online when your remaining stay is within 14 days, other methods within 7 days before expiry. Online applications are normally processed the next working day; in-person ones can be finished the same day at the Extension Section. Approval is not guaranteed, so apply early; check the ImmD fee table for the fee. Source: immd.gov.hk/eng/forms/forms/id91.html. Checked: 2026-10.
How much deposit do landlords ask for in Hong Kong?
Two months' rent is the usual deposit, and it is the legal ceiling for regulated tenancies such as subdivided units. A typical lease is two years, often with a break clause after about 12-14 months with one or two months' notice or payment in lieu. Get the deposit terms and break clause in writing before you sign. Do I need a Hong Kong ID card?
If you are permitted to stay more than 180 days and are aged 11 or over, you must register for a Hong Kong identity card within the official deadline after arrival; failing to apply without reasonable excuse is an offence. Book online, via the ImmD app or by phone, and bring your passport. Check ImmD for the current fee and processing time. Source: gov.hk/en/nonresidents/living/settling.htm. Checked: 2026-10.
What is the Top Talent Pass Scheme and who qualifies?
TTPS has three routes: high annual income (no quota), graduates of eligible top universities with several years of recent work experience (no quota), and recent graduates with less experience (annual quota). Initial stay is normally 24 or 36 months depending on the route. Check the official page for the current income threshold, quota and university list. How does the General Employment Policy visa work?
The GEP is for professionals with a job offer in Hong Kong; ImmD says applications normally take four weeks once all documents and the fee are received, and extensions about two to three weeks. Your employer typically sponsors you. You may bring a spouse or partner and unmarried children under 18 as dependants. Source: immd.gov.hk/eng/services/visas/GEP.html. Checked: 2026-10.
